Harmless Flirtation

from Things That Go Unsaid by peter zeldow

about

I wanted to write a country song in 3/4 time, and this was it. It started with the title and the first couple of lines. A song about a harmless flirtation simply has to end in disaster and in contradistinction to the original premise (sorry for the big words). I think I nailed it! lyrics

It's a harmless flirtation, just a moment in time
Though we shared a connection, we committed no crime
We both know nothing happened, we were both disinclined
There were secrets exchanged, there is no one to blame
For a harmless flirtation

Just a harmless flirtation, just a passing remark
Yes we shared an attraction, just the tiniest spark
With the best of intentions, we walked into the dark
There were secrets exchanged, did I mention her name?
In this harmless flirtation.

I woke up at daybreak, fever dreams filled my head
Told you I have to go, walked away from our bed
Never thought I would leave, can't believe what I said
When you're wearing a ring
Then there is no such thing
As a harmless flirtation

about

peter zeldow Chicago, Illinois

The delivery is understated, but the storytelling packs an emotional wallop that rewards careful listening. ... more
